What and why
When a climate risk assessment determines that the risk level for a hazard is too high, the system recommends adding adaptation measures. These are actions you take to reduce the building's vulnerability to a specific climate hazard, for example flood barriers, drainage improvements, or structural reinforcement.
The term is "adaptation" because you are adapting the building to better withstand physical climate hazards, not reducing emissions. This is different from transition plans, which focus on improving energy performance, and nature measures, which focus on reducing the building's impact on ecosystems.
How they work
Measures are added separately from the assessment flow, not as a step inside it. Once a hazard assessment is completed and measures are recommended, you add them from the property page.
For each measure you record:
What the measure is and which hazard it addresses.
Who is responsible for carrying it out.
The status, from planned to completed.
You can add more than one measure per hazard, and a single measure can address more than one hazard if it has a broad effect (for example, a raised foundation that reduces vulnerability to both flooding and storm surge).
Measures show on the property page and in the portfolio overview, so you can track progress across properties without opening each assessment.
How measures affect the assessment
Adding and completing measures does not automatically change the risk level or the compliance status of the assessment. The assessment result reflects the state of the building at the time it was assessed. If a measure materially changes the building's vulnerability, you can update the relevant sensitivity or consequence inputs to reflect the new situation, which will recalculate the result.
Good to know
Documenting measures is part of what makes a climate risk assessment complete under the EU Taxonomy. Even if the measure is planned rather than completed, recording it shows that the risk has been identified and is being managed.
Each assessment type handles measures differently. Climate risk uses adaptation measures described in this article. Nature risk includes measures as part of the assessment flow itself, following the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, minimize, restore, compensate). Transition risk uses transition plans with their own structure for energy improvement measures.
